Helping Landlords make the Digital Switchover

Flats will often require a communal TV system that uses one dish to serve all, which requires professional installation by an approved company. Sky-approved installers have the highest levels of expertise and competence in digital TV.

The level of work that is needed can vary from block to block, depending on anything from age and the existing system in place. While some may only need minor work, such as fitting new filters or boosters, others may require more intensive work, such as new cabling or a completely new communal TV solution. Regardless, all work is backed by the Sky promise of quality.

That's why they created our digital Communal TV solutions – to give people living in flats exactly the same choices as people living in houses, and make sure they are ready for the nationwide digital switchover. Sky's Communal TV solutions are for people living in blocks of flats - giving them the same digital TV choices as people living in houses. We have two main solutions, which cover all types of block:

  • Shared Dish - recommended for smaller blocks
  • Integrated Reception System (IRS) - recommended for larger blocks

Our dedicated team will give you specialist advice on which is the best solution for your block. Whichever one you go with, your residents will be able to access all the digital TV and radio they want, including the great Sky entertainment packages. But they won't have to sign up for Sky to receive free-to-air programmes. IRS is 'platform neutral', while Shared Dish offers the free-to-air option of Freesat from Sky.

All properties with a television need to prepare for switchover – ensuring that their TV can receive a digital signal. If you own rental property, such as a converted house or flat in a block, these will be reliant on a communal TV system for the TV signal and digital preparations for some properties of this type can take time. “For example installing a completely new Communal TV System in a very large block of flats will be time consuming,” says Pascal Wharton, Head of Sky Communal Solutions. “If you leave it until the last minute to find out what needs to be done in your block you may find you run out of time.”

Helping landlords make the digital switchover by finding the right Communal TV solution for your flats / appartmnts
